APCCMPD Board of Directors Vice President Call for Nominations

NOMINATION DEADLINE: JANUARY 8, 2020

The Association of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine Program Directors (APCCMPD) is now accepting nominations for the volunteer position of Vice-President.

The Board of Directors (BOD) is comprised of 5 voting members; the President, the President-Elect, the Vice-President, the Immediate Past President, the Secretary-Treasurer, and one non-voting member, the Fellow-in-Training. Each BOD member becomes a member of the Board by virtue of being elected.

After one year, the Vice-President shall ascend to the position of President-Elect, the President-Elect shall ascend to the position of President, and the President shall ascend to the position of Immediate Past President; each position is a 1-year term.

Eligibility Criteria for the Position of Vice-President

  • Applicants must be a Program Director and maintain full membership status to be elected and serve. 
  • Applicants should be willing to spend up to 3 hours per month participating in BOD work. Once the BOD member ascends to President, the time commitment increases to 10-15 hours a month.
  • Applicants should be willing to annually attend the (2) APCCMPD face-to-face member meetings, held in conjunction with CHEST and ATS, and the APCCMPD Annual Conference.
  • Applicants must submit a Letter of Support from their Division Chief or Department Chair supporting the applicant's candidacy.
  • Applicants should demonstrate commitment to the goals of the APCCMPD and interest in defining and supporting the education and training of pulmonary, critical care, and sleep medicine Program Directors and Fellows.
  • It is preferable if applicants:
    • have at least 3-years combined experience as Associate Program Director and Program Director, with at least 1-year of experience serving as a Pulmonary, CCM or PCCM Fellowship Program Director;
    • have been a member of the APCCMPD for at least 1-year; and
    • have regularly attended all APCCMPD face-to-face meetings and educational conferences. 

Required Nomination Material for the Position of Vice-President

  • Up-to-date CV
  • Completed Conflict of Interest Disclosure Form (view APCCMPD Leadership COI Policy)
  • A Letter of Support from the candidate’s Division Chief or Department Chair supporting the applicant's candidacy
  • Statement of Commitment and Purpose
    • History of work as a medicine Program Director
    • Commitment to the goals of the APCCMPD and interest in defining and supporting the education and training of pulmonary, critical care, and sleep medicine Program Directors and Fellows
    • Statement of willingness to participate in all face-to-face meetings and educational conferences each year and spend up to 3 hours/month on executive committee work. Once the BOD member ascends to President the time commitment increases to 10-15 hours a month.
    • Statement of Vision for the Future of the APCCMPD as Vice-President and future President. 
    • Willingness to attend the APCCMPD Annual Conference for a face-to-face interview, if selected, with the Nomination Committee.

NOMINATION PROCESS

1. Call for Nominations

  • In the fall of each year a call for Vice-President Nominations will be sent to all active members of the APCCMPD.
  • Program Director members of the APCCMPD may self-nominate or be nominated by any Program Director member of the APCCMPD.             
    • APCCMPD Program Director members who wish to nominate another member Program Director should first obtain the approval of the prospective nominee.

2. Development of Candidate Slate for Face-to Face Interviews and Member Voting

  • The Nomination Committee will develop an alphabetic list of the top qualifiers, based on the eligibility criteria.
  • The top candidates will be invited, at their expense, to the 2020 APCCMPD Annual Conference to participate in a face-to-face interview with the Nomination Committee.
  • The Nomination Committee will develop a ranked ballot of one or more candidate(s) to present to the membership for member vote, based on the face-to-face interviews and candidate qualifications to perform the required responsibilities.

3. Member Voting

  • The ballot for member voting will be sent to all APCCMPD Program Director members, via blast E-mail.
    • The candidate's nomination packet will also be available to the membership as an attachment to the blast E-mail.
    • The Vice-President will be chosen by a simple majority and officially elected at the annual APCCMPD face-to-face member meeting, held in conjunction with ATS. 

2020 VICE-PRESIDENT ELECTION KEY DATES

Deadline for Nominations: JANUARY 8, 2020
Face-to-Face Interviews: Will be held during the Annual Conference March 11-13, 2020, Ft. Lauderdale Beach, FL (exact date/time TBD) 
Inauguration of New VP: May 15, 2020 (at business meeting held in conjunction with ATS 2020, Philadelphia, PA)
