APCCMPD Fellows' Workgroup

Call for Nominations 


NOMINATION DEADLINE: JANUARY 21, 2019

The Association of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine Program Directors (APCCMPD) is now accepting nominations for the volunteer positions for the Fellows' Workgroup.
 

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Provide a unique fellows' perspective to the APCCMPD Board of Directors (BOD)
  • Develop and recommend to the BOD the annual fellowship survey for circulation to P/CCM fellowship programs
  • Develop and recommend to the BOD medical education-related content on behalf of the APCCMPD at both CHEST and ATS
  • Advance the field of medical education and fellowship training by disseminating survey results at the APCCMPD Annual Conference and Bi-annual member meetings held in conjunction with ATS and CHEST as approved by the BOD.

Composition

The Fellow’s Workgroup, when fully constituted shall have up to 9 members. Each member shall be an active Fellow of an APCCMPD member program with an interest in Medical Education. 

Chair- The Fellow-in-Training (FIT) on the APCCMPD BOD shall Chair the Fellow’s Working Group.  The Chair shall serve a two-year term concurrent with their position as Fellow-in-Training (FIT) on the APCCMPD BOD. 

Appointment
 
The Workgroup Membership shall be filled using three processes. 1) Fellows who were nominated for the Fellow-in-Training position on the BOD but did not get elected to serve will be evaluated and invited to participate on the Workgroup. 2) Current BOD Members can appoint a fellow, with an interest in Medical Education, from their program to participate on the Fellow’s Workgroup. 3) A general call for nominations will occur in the fall of each year to fill open positions.
 
All candidates should be in their 2nd or 3rd year of fellowship so that they can complete at least 1 one-year term. The APCCMPD BOD will review each nomination and select nominees to fill the vacant seats. 

Term

Fellow’s Workgroup Members shall serve up to 2 one-year terms.  The term will commence in July, following the start of the new Fellow-in-Training (FIT) on the APCCMPD BOD term.

The Chair of the Fellows' Workgroup will make a recommendation to the BOD on the reappointment of Workgroup members for a 2nd term. Recommendation to reappoint a member for their 2nd term will be contingent upon participation in year 1.

Eligibility Criteria
  • Applicants must have an interest in pursuing a career in medical education.
  • Applicants must be nominated by their Program Director who maintains a regular (Program Director) member status. 
  • Applicants should be willing to spend up to 1-3 hours per month participating in Workgroup work.
  • Applicants should demonstrate commitment to the goals of the APCCMPD and interest in defining and supporting the education and training of pulmonary, critical care, and sleep medicine Program Directors and Fellows.
  • Applicants should be a 1st-year Fellow in a 3-year program, or a 1st- or 2nd-year Fellow in a 4-year program. This assures the Fellow can serve a 2-year term.
  • No program can have more than two APCCMPD Fellow Workgroup members at the same time.
  • It is preferable if applicants:
    • have been a Fellow-in-Training of a fellowship program that has maintained APCCMPD membership for at least one year; and have regularly attended APCCMPD in-person meetings and educational conferences.

  • Up-to-date CV
  • Completed Conflict of Interest Disclosure Form (view APCCMPD Leadership COI Policy)
  • Statement of Commitment and Purpose including:
    • Commitment to the goals of the APCCMPD and interest in defining and supporting the education and training of pulmonary, critical care, and sleep medicine Program Directors and Fellows.
    • Statement of willingness to participate in all face-to-face meetings and educational conferences each year and spend up to 1-3 hours/month on Fellows' Workgroup work.
  •  Letter of Support from the Training Program Director.

Nomination Process

1. Call for Nominations

  • In the fall of each election year a call for the Fellow-in-Training Nominations will be sent to all active members of the APCCMPD.
  • Program Director members of the APCCMPD may nominate a candidate for the position of Fellow-in-Training on the BOD. APCCMPD Program Director members who wish to nominate a Fellow for this position should first obtain the approval of the prospective nominee. 

2. Nomination of Candidates

  • The Nomination Committee, comprised of the APCCMPD BOD and Past Presidents, will review all nominees. 
  • The Nomination Committee will develop a ranked list of candidate(s) for APCCMPD BOD approval.


2019 FELLOW-IN-TRAINING ELECTION KEY DATES
Deadline for Nominations: January 21, 2019

Inauguration of New Fellow-in-Training: May 19, 2019
