Fellowship Opportunity in Lung Transplantation and Pulmonary Hypertension

The Division of Pulmonary, Allergy, and Critical Care Medicine (PACCM) at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center is seeking fellowship applicants interested in specialized training in lung transplantation and pulmonary hypertension beginning July 1, 2012. Fellows will spend one year focused on the inpatient and outpatient care of advanced lung disease and lung transplantation patients, including selection of appropriate candidates for lung transplantation and management of post-operative and long term complications such as chronic rejection and opportunistic infections. Fellows will also obtain expertise with diagnosis and management of pulmonary hypertension in both the inpatient and outpatient settings of a joint cardiology/pulmonary program. Procedural experience will include performance of right heart catheterizations, both routine and interventional transplant bronchoscopies, and interpretation of echocardiograms.

The University of Pittsburgh Medical Center is at the forefront in the field of lung transplantation and pulmonary hypertension. We have consistently performed over 100 lung transplants each year since 2005 with outcomes comparable to those of the ISHLT registry. With the development of an outcomes research program and the addition of new clinical and research faculty to the pulmonary and surgical branches, the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center is poised to be a leader in transplant research.

Applicants with an interest in a future in lung transplantation, pulmonary hypertension, and academic medicine are encouraged to apply. Information regarding the application process can be found at:
